Season 2 finally arrived, and with it came the last chapter of the Venomous Abyss. Guilds have spent weeks clearing their path through seven bosses, and now the true test waits at the base of the Vaults. Ula’tek, the serpent goddess herself, guards the final chamber, and her fight lives up to the buildup.
This three-phase meeting with one intermission asks every role to contribute in ways the rest of the raid has not asked yet. Groups struggling to field a full Heroic roster can lean on a Venomous Abyss carry to lock in the kill rather than wiping through progression week after week. Here is a full Heroic analysis of what the fight really asks of your raid.
Eggs sit at the middle of this whole encounter. Three players pick up starting eggs before the pull begins, and those eggs stay dangerous for the rest of the phase. Any venomous impact that hits an egg changes it into a Blightscale Viper, a truly difficult add that can clear the raid in case more than one is spawned at the same time. Taking an egg and placing it in a right soak will safely crack it into a Blightscale Rawling, a lowly minion that your DPS can kill in a few seconds.
Tanks take two connected mechanics throughout every phase. Ula’tek throws Mother Wrath on her current tank, pushing them away and leaving a red circle on the ground. The tank has to go back to that circle to take the follow-up hits, piling Stone Venom and Limped in the process. Missing the circle gives that damage to the whole raid instead, which commonly kills the pull.
At the same time, a Gore Rattle add spawns at the arena’s edge. Your second tank must grab it now, as an untanked Gore Rattle causes Rattler Slam and clears the raid in a few seconds. The Gore Rattle also produces Spectral Coils, a soak mechanic where players stand in marked zones to lower shared damage. Egg carriers bring their eggs into these soaks to crack them safely.
Once both tanks are set, the phase settles into a constant rhythm. The Gore Rattle periodically starts Mephitic Thrash, sweeping nearby players and knocking them back. So, stay alert near the add. After Spectral Coils resolve, a large ring expands from the Gore Rattle. Everyone needs to clear that ring before it hits, since getting caught lifts players a long distance away.
Tank swaps happen right as that green ring is gone. The tank holding Gore Rattle should pick up Ula’tek as the other tank moves in to take over the add. Necrotic Vapors stacks on the entire raid throughout the phase and never falls off, acting as a soft enrage that punishes slow progress.
Sometimes, Ula’tek channels Rage of the Shackled, making falling debris across the arena while revealing her Venomous Heart. That heart takes significantly increased damage. Thus, this window is your best chance to burn real health off the boss. Soon after, she winds up Caustic Waves toward one side of the room. Anyone having an egg needs to avoid these waves, since contact instantly hatches them into Vipers. The Gore Rattle tank is the anomaly and just eats the wave.
After a few cycles, Ula’tek dives into the acid pool, opening two paths on either side of the arena. Split your raid into even groups and swim across. Also, make sure that both sides get a balanced mix of tanks, healers, and DPS.
Each side spawns a Doomscale Warden defending a Doomscale Cauldron. Kill the Warden, collect the eggs spread along that path, and dump them into the cauldron once the Warden falls. This spawns adds that need a quick kill. A fully grown Ravenous Doomscale will also appear, and your tank must pick it up and face it away from the group to avoid its cone attack.
Once both sides clear their adds, swim back to the center for another round of Phase 1 mechanics, followed by Rage of the Shackled and a Venomous Heart burn window before the intermission begins.
Group up in the center as multiple egg spawns appear around the room. Grab every egg fast, then watch for ghostly tentacles that mark soak locations one at a time. Move the raid to each slam location together, clear the adds it spawns, and rotate to the next marker until the room clears.
Ula’tek bursts from the center, destroying the arena floor and creating four separate platforms. Your raid slow-falls onto them as she picks one platform to stand on. Melee needs to reach her fast while a tank ensures danger.
New eggs spawn here too. But ranged DPS should kill them outright instead of protecting them. Watch for red circles marking players who need to move away from the group, since they will pulse damage and empower any remaining eggs. Ghostly tentacles sometimes destroy the platform Ula’tek stands on, forcing a fast relocation to a new one. Keep rotating, clearing adds, and burning the boss until the platforms run out and Ula’tek falls.
A Heroic kill doesn’t open Mythic difficulty. Mythic runs alongside Normal and Heroic from week one, independent of your progress. What it does unlock is the Ahead of the Curve: Ula’tek achievement, open only while Season 2 is current. The kill also gives access to Hero-track loot up to item level 315, including the universal Slumbering Coil Curio. You can trade the latter with Kirana for any Season 2 tier piece. On top of that, a clean weekly kill feeds your Great Vault toward a Myth-track reward around item level 318, making Heroic Ula’tek worth revisiting even after you’ve already earned the achievement.
Ans: The fight is split into 3 phases: Phase 1, spectral coils, tail slam attacks that require collective group soaking, personal or healer cooldown control. Phase 2: The raid splits into two groups to clear side paths, handle doomscale wardens, and throw large eggs into cauldrons to prevent a wipe. Phase 3: Uses Serpent’s Point to spawn large venom circles that require the raid to pre-spread into distinct groups to soak safely.
Ans: The fight combines individual positioning, compounding add management, and 3-phase mechanics that punish even a single micro-mistake; it can be difficult for players who are unaware of these core requirements for this fight.
Ans: For the standard fight, the best party will be a balanced flex raid composition of 2 Tanks, 13 DPS, and 5 Healers.
