Concord Multiplayer Game is Finally Taken Off the Air: A Complete Disaster Moment for Sony Entertainment

Concord created by Firewalk Studios and published by Sony Entertainment, was a multiplayer first-person shooter game. The game was released for PlayStation 5 and PC on August 23, 2024. However, it was taken down just within two weeks of its release, which was a complete disaster moment for Sony Entertainment.

According to Forbes video game critic Paul Tassi, the main reason for Concord’s failure was its $40 price, as several other hero shooter games are free to play. Well! Nobody is interested in taking a free gunner’s job anymore. Particularly when it is priced at $40.

In its short lifespan, Concord also faced stiff competition. Not only was it a highly priced game compared with free-to-play hero shooters such as Overwatch 2 and Apex Legends, but it had its release on the same day as Black Myth: Wukong, and a week before Star Wars: Outlaws. There is no doubt that the video game industry has been facing frequent turbulence, but the history of Concord is a strange one. Its development process took eight years, a remarkably long time for any game. Whereas the average concept to release a game is typically three years.

Despite its prominence in the widely popular hero-shooter genre, Concord has been a complete disappointment. The website SteamDB keeps track of how many people play games on PC; Concord’s highest recorded number of concurrent users was 660.

“We have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6th, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players,” stated Concord Game Director Ryan Ellis in a disappointing PlayStation blog post.

As for the final verdict, the game will be removed from sale immediately, and anyone who purchased it on the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct will be refunded to their primary payment methods. Those who purchased on Steam and the Epic Games Store will be refunded in the coming days.
