Snapchat Unveils New AR Glasses with Upgraded Features

When Snapchat unveiled the new AR glasses called the Spectacles ‘24 on Tuesday, it was met with enthusiasm by audiences all over the world. It has a proprietary operating system that brings the experience of augmented reality closer to the real world in the most fun way.

Snapchat is known for targeting a young audience and tapping into their preferences. However, this new development is the next step towards growth which combines Stories and Spotlight videos for a shared virtual community. The popular social media platform is also focused on streamlined content and communication features to challenge its competitors like TikTok. 

Moreover, a new profile design has been introduced to increase fan engagement and share their selective data with advertisers for marketing purposes. There are more benefits for advertisers with Sponsored Snaps by promoting specific places where friends can follow each other’s location. 

The upgraded operating systems are especially advantageous for developers with rebuilt Lens Studio to seamlessly share content across apps, websites, and Spectacles ‘24. Additionally, the company is also planning to collaborate with OpenAI to give developers access to multimodal LLM when creating Lenses. 

In the words of Snap CEO Evan Spiegel, “I think in the early days, our advertising partners will be thinking about how to extend their core brand experiences through Spectacles.” It means that Snapchat’s long-term goals are closely tied to becoming a developer-friendly platform that could be monetized and grow bigger in the market.
