Last year, Qualcomm revealed that it has been working on creating a new generation of ARM-based laptop chips with the Snapdragon X Elite. And while we’re still waiting for those processors to make their way into our devices, Qualcomm has been secretly expanding the line with the Snapdragon X Plus.

This chipset is pretty similar to the previous Elite version. The Snapdragon X Plus is based on the same 4nm process and ARM-based Oryon CPU architecture. The only thing that makes the X Plus any different from the X Elite is that the new chip is meant to be used in slightly more affordable laptops.

This is why it has only 10 CPU cores as compared to 12 in the X Elite as well as reduced clock speeds.

Qualcomm’s competitors have been doing the same, with the X Elite being the flagship chip on the market and the X Plus sitting just below that.

But one thing is clear, just like the X Elite, the X Plus is the epitome of performance. Qualcomm has said that this chip is 10% faster than Apple’s M3 in multi-threaded CPU tasks. Unfortunately, the X Plus is not expected to show up on any new retail devices until sometime in the second half of 2024.
