A new post on Reddit has unexpectedly fired up interest in the Lumia 1020. Reddit user OceanDepth95028 has put forth their so-called NokiApple LumiPhone 1020 SE. It is a device with such an impressive concept that a moderator overseeing activity on the Hackintosh subreddit allowed the post to go on even if it had nothing to do with Hackintosh.
Thereby, the NokiApple LumiPhone 1020 SE is not some Windows Phone granted the wizard’s touch to run iOS. Instead, it is a rather clever hybrid of an iPhone SE (3rd Gen) stuffed into the world-famous shell of a Lumia 1020.
But OceanDepth95028 pushed the envelope for some candy-sweet modding; the project involved merging the internals of the iPhone with a fingerprint reader cleverly concealed on the back. It is done to build a custom SIM card slot and make a Lightning port look just like a micro-USB port.
This mashup works surprisingly well, with 5G support and the fingerprint sensor on the back working as well. All credits to the iPhone SE components on 5G, the gadget is powered by the A15 Bionic chip. Hence, it can still run current apps.
Conventionally a one-off creation, its maker suggests that the NokiApple LumiPhone 1020 SE could make a great daily driver. Except for Apple Pay and wireless charging, all seems to be in check. Given that it is general with security concerns, it could be expected that Apple Pay may not work.
To make the iPhone SE components fit inside the shell of the Lumia 1020, a few button positions had to be changed, such as moving the position of the fingerprint reader to the back. The camera button, meanwhile, acts as a volume control and a shutter button.
Updates received through OTA are in order since they are original iPhone parts, and so the NokiApple LumiPhone 1020 SE receives these OTA updates.
