Yann LeCun (GodFather of AI) is currently working as chief AI scientist at Facebook’s Parent company Meta, believe that AI is dangerous for humans and humanity in the near future is an overstated statement.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, he said, “You’re going to have to pardon my French, but that’s complete B.S.” He also added that current AI models are only as intelligent as pets and humans are more intelligent creatures on this Earth.

Moreover, he disagreed with Yoshua Bengio and Geoffrey Hinton his fellow GodFathers of AI warnings.

Furthermore, Yann LeCun called the “artificial general intelligence” likely premature. He posted on X, “It seems to me that before ‘urgently figuring out how to control AI systems much smarter than us’ we need to have the beginning of a hint of a design for a system smarter than a house cat.”

In agreeing with Yann LeCun, Bengio said, “I hope he is right, but I don’t think we should leave it to the competition between companies and the profit motive alone to protect the public and democracy. That is why I think we need governments involved.”

Meanwhile, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI said that AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) has come within “a few thousand days.” Elon Musk stated the arrival of AGI in 2026.

He continued by saying, “In the future, when people will talk to their AI system, to their smart glasses or whatever else, we need those AI systems to basically have human-level characteristics, and really have common sense, and really behave like a human assistant.”

He added that developing this AI system can take a decade and AI startups can’t reach the goal of AGI.
