For a long time, iPhone users have been waiting for the tech giant to introduce a default option for Google Maps. Finally, Apple has listened to its customer’s needs and will soon allow users to set Google Maps as their default app for navigation.
Currently, Apple Maps (a web mapping service developed by Apple) has been set as the default map system of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS. It works just like Google Maps, however, according to speculations, Google Maps turns out to be much more accurate than any other app for navigation. Google Maps offers more detailed traffic and hazard information compared to Apple Maps. The majority of people still prefer to choose Google Maps as their go-to navigation app.
Apple has recently announced that now they are offering users in the EU to finally have the option to select either of the apps as default apps. Furthermore, they are also planning to provide a default option for the translation app as well. This means iPhone owners in the EU will be able to do something users have been requesting for years
This option will likely arrive in the update via iOS 18.4, which is expected to debut in April 2025.
Apple still hasn’t announced a complete detail for the release. Meanwhile, this update right now will be limited to users in the EU, and there is still plenty of time for the company to plan for a worldwide release.
