LineageOS 22 is officially here, with new builds set to be launched in the upcoming days. It will be based on Android 15 and packed with various exciting features and enhancements.
The team in a comprehensive blog post, announced LineageOS 22 as the recent iteration of their ROM projects. While it is not the first one to embrace the newest version as Evolution X already holds that distinction, it certainly brings a wealth of improvements.
This release is significantly ahead of schedule compared to Android 14, launching before the end of 2023. Over the next few weeks, users have the option to upgrade to the latest mobile operating system of Google.
This version is built on Android 15 QPR1 and includes all security updates through December 2024. As a result of being based on QPR1, LineageOS is labeled as 22.1 instead of 22.0.
This is in alignment with Google’s new approach to ‘minor SDK releases’ which means that the future updates will follow the x.1 naming convention. A hint towards LineageOS 23.2 was also made by the team which is a part of the much-expected release cycle of Android 16 25Q4.
LineageOS has an outstanding feature, which is the introduction of a new music application known as ‘Twelve’ replacing the previous ‘Eleven’ music player. The revamped application boasts a fresh Material You design along with a dedicated landscape mode for tablets and larger devices like foldables.
It also supports various music library server protocols, including Subsonic and Jellyfin together with various enhancements to boost your listening experience. Besides this, LineageOS also includes an in-built PDF reader, addressing the limitations of the Jelly browser; this addition is perfect for those who do not wish to install a separate application just to read downloaded documents. A revamped download page is another notable update for the users.
