Earlier this week, Apple unveiled the developer beta of iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 with the streamlined “Default Apps” menu, the ability to finally set additional default apps. While there have been a bunch of Apple intelligence features with this beta like Genmoji, Image Playground, and ChatGPT integration, the company has been able to provide a full package deal.
This process will now make it easier for iPhone and iPad users to manage their settings and default apps. It will be a significant improvement over the previous method that required users to dig into individual settings. The great news is that it is not just limited to the browser, users can now even change apps for messages and calls.
Earlier, the tech giant only allowed limited changes to the default email app and browser app, and the settings were located in Safari and the email menu. Now there will be a dedicated menu to change all the default apps with iOS 18.2 beta.
“Manage your default apps for iPhone, including choosing the apps you prefer to use for opening links on the web, sending emails, making contactless payments, and more,” the default app menu description reads.
Users can easily access the “default app” but first get the new app section in the settings on iOS18. Then Tap on the Default Apps option under that and now users have the option to select new default apps for email, messaging, calling, call filtering, and web browser.
Other than these setting options, the new default app menu also lists the number of apps related to passwords & codes, as well as keyboard apps that you have installed. While entering passwords and typing in text, users can also choose the ones that they want to access.
