The tech giant has always been ahead of innovations to provide the best and highest-end devices in the market. Apple introduces groundbreaking health features to support hearing loss conditions impacting billions of people. Novel sleep apnea notifications are provided by the new Apple Watch, while AirPods Pro 2 offers the world’s first comprehensive hearing health experience that includes a clinical-grade, over-the-counter Hearing Aid feature.
Hearing aids are often expensive and difficult to obtain. Apple asserts that incorporating them into headphones, such as Apple’s renowned AirPods, may enhance accessibility to hearing aids. The company has stated that the wireless headphones will double as clinical-grade over-the-counter hearing aids for those who need them.
“We’re adding this groundbreaking capability to help more than 1 billion people living with mild to moderate hearing loss,” said Sumbul Ahmad Desai, Apple’s vice president of health.
Apple said its hearing aid feature will boost frequencies “so sounds are clearer and more vibrant to your ears.” The company also said the feature will use “machine learning to make real-time adjustments as you go about your day.”
The tech giant asserts that they will soon be able to obtain FDA clearance, thereby making the AirPods Pro 2 a medical device that has been approved by the government. Over 100 countries, including the United States, Germany, and Japan, will get the hearing aid assistance features this fall through a software update.
People over the age of 18 with mild to moderate hearing impairment benefit from these features. The primary objective is to make it more feasible for people to get hearing aids, which can be difficult to afford and not covered by insurance.
