Google features the “Find My Device” service on Pixel’s latest series. The service is set up to locate the Android devices even after switched off and out of battery.
In case your smartphone is lost, “Find My Device” helps to find the last known location of your device. It utilizes Bluetooth and location proximity data networks from nearby Android devices to send beacons. Despite this, the device itself connects over “Find My Device” from GPS or the internet to report their location.
However, the service is currently limited to Google’s latest Pixel series like Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro foldable smartphones. It is notably important that Google’s original fold phone didn’t support the “Find My Device” service. Apparently, this feature makes the Google Pixel series better than other Android devices.
The availability of “powered-off finding” can be beneficial when the device is running out of battery and switched off. The process happens when the device reserves the power to connect to the Bluetooth chip for several hours. As a result, the Bluetooth chip sends a signal to nearby devices in the radar of the “Find My Device” network. This is how the service operates even when the device is turned off.
Additionally, Google allows you to customize the “Find My Device” features to work with network types. Google support page benefits the users to utilize the “Find My Device” service.
You can explore more options in “Find your offline devices” like off, without network, with network in high-traffic areas only, and with network in all areas. Hence, it is recommended to turn on the “with network in all areas” option.
